AGENCY HOSTING RANKINGS

Best Hosting for Agencies in 2026

Agency hosting should simplify multiple-site management, collaboration, staging, backups, client handoff, and support while leaving room to scale.

OUR SHORTLIST

The providers we would consider first

We compare more than the promotional headline price. Rankings account for ongoing cost, target user, included features, and the practical tradeoffs that show up after signup.

Agency hosting has several models: You can place client sites on separate managed WordPress plans, use a shared portfolio allowance, run managed cloud servers, or resell infrastructure. Before comparing prices, decide who owns each client account and invoice, who can access staging and backups, and how a site moves when the client leaves.

AGENCY OPERATING MODEL

Choose agency hosting by client ownership and handoff

The cheapest per-site price can become expensive if the agency spends hours managing access, migrations, staging, billing, and recovery. Define the repeatable client workflow first, then compare plans against it.

Client-owned accountsBest when the client should control billing and the long-term provider relationship. Record domain, hosting, DNS, and recovery ownership with the handover checklist.
Agency-managed portfolioBest when the agency operates many sites and needs shared staging, migrations, backups, and team access. Compare Kinsta vs. WP Engine for WordPress-specific workflows, then use the WP Engine pricing guide to model the billing and usage limits.
Shared managed serverCan lower per-site infrastructure cost but concentrates operational responsibility. Compare Cloudways vs. Kinsta to see the server-versus-plan tradeoff.
Exit and handoffBefore putting several clients into one account, document how a single site leaves cleanly. Use migration scope and account ownership as the minimum checklist.

BUYER-SPECIFIC RESEARCH

Make staging approval part of the client workflow

Before moving a client site, agree who can review staging, who approves a release and who can deploy or restore it. Test the handoff with one representative site. For sites receiving orders or registrations, record how new live data will be preserved during the release; approval of a design alone does not resolve that question.

Read the WordPress staging guide and deployment checklist.

Choose the installation model before moving clients

Decide whether client sites need independent WordPress installations or belong in a Multisite network with common software administration. Test how one project would leave the arrangement, who controls network-level changes and whether a single-site recovery affects another client. A central hosting dashboard does not require a shared WordPress installation.

Compare separate WordPress sites with Multisite for a client portfolio.

Choose the workflow you can repeat for every client

Agency hosting needs to work on the tenth client site as well as the first. Count the sites you expect to operate, who owns each account, who can approve a change, and how a completed project moves to a client. Then compare the ranked plans above against that workflow. If you are an independent freelancer balancing a portfolio and a few client sites, start with our freelancer hosting guide. An attractive per-site price can lose its appeal if every launch requires manual access sharing or a separate migration.

Before onboarding or releasing a client, verify who controls the domain, hosting and recovery accounts. Keep the account recovery checklist available for missing access.

To evaluate two managed WordPress workflows side by side, see our Kinsta vs. WP Engine comparison. For agencies sharing a managed server across projects, Cloudways vs. Kinsta explains how server-based billing and managed WordPress plan limits differ.

Is Kinsta agency hosting worth the monthly cost?

Kinsta’s listed Agency 20 plan starts at $340 per month, or a displayed $284 per month with annual billing ($3,400 paid upfront). It includes 20 WordPress installs, 50 GB storage, 250 GB server bandwidth, 1,000 GB CDN bandwidth, unlimited migrations, and 30-day backup retention. Prices are in U.S. dollars and exclude tax. These plan limits and prices were checked October 14, 2026; confirm the quote before signing up.

This is a premium option for agencies that need managed WordPress operations across a substantial client portfolio. It is usually hard to justify for only a few low-traffic sites unless the time saved on migrations, security, support, and client workflow is worth the recurring bill. Kinsta also has a separate Agency Partner Program for agencies that want partner benefits such as training, co-marketing, and lead referrals; the partner program is distinct from buying an Agency hosting plan. See Kinsta’s current agency hosting plans and program details.

Questions to test before moving a client portfolio

  • Access: Can staff and clients receive only the permissions they need? Confirm how you remove an employee’s access across all client sites.
  • Staging and handoff: Test how changes move from staging to production, and how billing, ownership and credentials transfer at the end of a project.
  • Backups: Check retention, restore time and export options on the exact plan; keep a recovery path you can use if a client site fails.
  • Economics: Calculate the portfolio bill at today’s site count and a plausible future count. Include extra sites, storage, traffic, email, backups and renewal terms where they apply.

For a team that maintains WordPress client sites, see our managed WordPress shortlist and the Kinsta vs. WP Engine comparison. If client sites differ widely in workload, the cloud hosting shortlist helps frame infrastructure options. Verify each provider’s current plan limits and contract before migrating live client work.

BUYING GUIDANCE

How to choose the right option

Agency hosting should reduce the time spent maintaining infrastructure across clients while making staging, collaboration, handoff, and recovery straightforward.

Multi-site workflowWe compare site dashboards, staging, cloning, migrations, backups, and portfolio-level management.
Team and client accessRoles, collaboration tools, billing separation, and clean handoff processes matter for agency operations.
Support and scalabilityAgencies need responsive technical help and upgrade paths that do not force disruptive migrations.

HOW WE RANK

Price gets attention. Long-term value earns the ranking.

Intro + renewal costWe look at both the promotional rate and what the plan costs later.
Useful included featuresBackups, SSL, CDN, email, migration, staging, and support matter when comparing real value. We prioritize documented pricing and plan fit; we do not present unsupported benchmark claims.
Best-fit customerA premium host can rank highly without being the right choice for a simple budget site.
Editorial independenceAffiliate compensation does not determine our scores or ranking order.

Prices and plan terms can change. Verify current pricing and terms with the provider before purchasing.
