Ask the provider how it would respond if the web service stopped after a server update, and how it would respond if a third-party website plugin broke checkout. For each scenario, ask who investigates, whether hands-on work is included and what additional charge or service could apply.
Keep the answers with the quote. They help distinguish server management from application maintenance and show where your own administrator or developer must be available.
Compare managed and unmanaged VPS responsibilities.
Hostinger’s public KVM 1 listing displayed $6.49 per month and a $11.99 monthly-equivalent rate for a two-year renewal when checked September 26, 2026. The listing does not establish the full first payment in our research record, so we have not put a multi-year VPS total in the comparison table. Its VPS is self-managed; budget for your own setup, maintenance and recovery work. See Hostinger’s current KVM plans.
A low VPS server price can shift work to you: patching, firewall setup, monitoring, backups and incident recovery. Compare an unmanaged configuration with a managed VPS only after adding the control panel, backup storage and any paid support you need. A small business without someone to administer the server may spend less overall on a suitable managed plan even when its monthly rate is higher.
Check the exact CPU, RAM, storage and transfer allowances, whether resources are dedicated, the location of backups and the restore fee. Cloudways is a managed cloud layer with usage-based billing, so a fixed introductory shared-hosting rate is not an equal comparison. Hostinger’s low-cost VPS path requires comfort operating the server. See shared versus VPS versus cloud, compare physical host tenancy in our VPS vs. dedicated hosting guide, and enter the selected billing cycle in our renewal calculator.
Before choosing a low-priced VPS, write down the person or service responsible for operating-system updates, software patches, firewall rules, monitoring, application problems and recovery. Ask what the host’s support will fix and what remains with you. Hostinger describes its VPS plans as self-managed; that distinction can matter more than a small gap in the advertised monthly rate.
These public US examples were checked September 28, 2026. They illustrate different billing and management models; they are not an equal-capacity ranking or a promise of your checkout price.
List each invoice that will actually come due: the introductory server period, the rest of the first year, a control-panel license if needed, management, backup storage and any migration or administration work. Then write down the renewal invoice and the person responsible for updates and recovery. If a provider has not shown the first charge or a required extra in a verifiable cart, mark the total unknown rather than filling it with a monthly headline. Our cost calculator can model a selected term once those facts are confirmed.
For a business site without a server administrator, compare the service boundary in our managed WordPress guide or the small business shortlist. For a store, start with the checkout and recovery checklist before moving it to a VPS.
