A Five-Minute Check Before You Buy Web Hosting

The advertised monthly price is not always the amount you will pay at checkout. Hosting plans often show a promotional rate as a monthly equivalent while billing the whole term up front. That can be a fine deal. It is still worth taking five minutes to read the order as an actual purchase.

1. Look at the term, not just the monthly equivalent

2. Find the renewal number

The introductory price and the next bill are two different decisions. Note the renewal amount for the same plan and billing term, and check whether any promotional features expire. 3. Check the extras before you click Pay

Look at domain registration, email, backups, security tools, and any preselected add-ons. Which are included for the whole term, which are included for only the first year, and which are separate charges? Keep a copy of the order summary so you can compare it with the first invoice.

4. Read the exit terms
